News / All news / Moscow is preparing to become the cello capital

From September 27 to October 1 in Moscow will be held the Third International Cello Festival VIVACELLO. It is the only Russian festival devoted to cello music.

This year among the participants are world-renowned musicians such as Yuri Bashmet, Julian Rachlin, Sergei Nakaryakov, Alexander Rudin, Claudio Boorkes, Katia Skanavi and famous musical collectives: The State Symphony Orchestra "New Russia", the chamber orchestra "Musica Viva", Chamber Ensemble "Soloists of Moscow" and many others.

Opening concert of the festival will be held in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. The program also includes a series of chamber and special concerts, master-class of musicians and festival participants. A number of concerts will be devoted to the great cellist of the past. Thus, the opening concert of the festival with the participation of Yuri Bashmet, Alexander Rudin, Stephen Isserlisa and chamber ensemble "Soloists of Moscow" will be dedicated to the memory of Mstislav Rostropovich.

The International Music Day, October 1, in the theater "School of Dramatic Art" will be a concert dedicated to the famous Italian composer and cellist Luigi Boccherini. That evening, five cellists from around the five concerts will perform Luigi Boccherini, accompanied by chamber orchestra "Musica Viva".

September 30 at the Tchaikovsky Cultural Center will be a concert in memory of Pablo Casals. Claudio Boorkes and Katia Skanavi perform program, which was made by Casals in his only concert in Moscow Conservatory Small Hall. September 28, in the Cultural Center "ART_STRELKA" with the program NONCLASSICAL will perform the famous DJ Gabriel Prokofiev, Sergei Prokofiev's descendant.

And on September 29 in the art center PROEKT_FABRIKA will be presentation of program CELLO E PITTURA, which will focus on how other arts see the cello and its music (art easel, cinema), and as it hears them. The idea of holding a scale concert forum, with the cello music in the heart of program, appeared a few years ago from one of the best Russian cellist, winner of international competitions Boris Andrianov.

— World over there are big cello festivals - says the musician. - In Germany and in England such events are exist, needn’t to mention Japan where take place the cello congresses and symposia. In Moscow, a cello festival has never been, because here have own traditions and school, which gave the world such names like Saffron, Rostropovich, Piatigorsky, Gutman! I thought it was unfair and offered to hold Cello Festival in Moscow.

The organizer of the festival is the Cultural and Charity Foundation U-Art: You and the Art. Founders Tamaz and Iveta Manasherov pay special attention to this project: We were pleased to support the initiative of our good friend Boris Andrianov, when he addressed a proposal to organize a cello festival in Moscow. The activities of out Foundation aims to support non-profit cultural projects, including jointly with the Tretyakov Gallery and the Russian Museum. Basically this is the event associated with visual art, so to do a major musical event is particularly interesting for us. Combine the world's most talented musicians is an honor for us, and we are delighted that we have the opportunity to present their art at the best venues such as Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and the Theatre "School of Dramatic Art." The festival organizers are confident that VIVACELLO will not only vivid musical project, but also a landmark cultural event of the capital.
